Matt, May & Midnight (2024)

Matt, May & Midnight are the main characters of one of Super Matthieu Brothers' upcoming video game projects, The Crime Travellers, as well as the mascots of MD Enterprises. These kids cat like to solve crimes that take place in the past or future. These kids are under the care of the chief of police in their town, their uncle Officer Martin, due to their parents being game ended in a car accident. While they usually like to hang around the police station in their little apartment-sized room, Officer Martin lets them time travel to stop criminals mainly for the fun of it and to make his nephew, niece and cat happy doing so. During their travels, they usually team up with the guy who made the time machine that sends them anywhere, the looney Professor Quack Von Crazy, and together as a trio they are the M-Team. They do go by themselves if the professor is busy at the moment, however. Unstoppable heroes they certainly are.

These characters were first conceived back in 2020, and their designs weren't revealed until 2024 on the Kirby Live Radio Wiki itself.

About the Trio[]

Matt[]

Of the main trio, Matt is the leader. He's usually the one to come up with plans and perform some cool action stunts during their escapades. Matt is twelve years old and during his free time whenever he's not solving crimes with his sister and cat, he likes to play around, play some video games, read comics or come up with wacky things to do with May, Midnight and even Von Crazy.

Matt's appearance has him with brown hair. He also wears a red hoodie with a big letter 'M' on it, blue jeans, brown shoes and a red baseball cap. Of the trio, Matt is also the tallest due to being the oldest. His pupils are black whereas his eye color is the same color as his skin, which is a beige pinkish flesh tone.

It's very clear that Matt here is very sporty and athletic and really likes action stuff, whether it be through toys, books, movies or games. He also cares very much for his sister May and their cat Midnight, seeing each other as a found family (even though they're related by blood and all, sans Midnight). Matt also can be careless sometimes during missions, usually wanting to take on the bad guys head on, typically resulting in bad things happening and leading him to think of more strategic plans to outsmart the villains.

May[]

While Matt may be the leader, May plays a just as important role as her older brother. Whenever Matt can be full of himself, May is usually there to help him out with thinking of ways to better defeat the villains, and the two regularly use their teamwork into action. May is Matt's younger sister at age eleven, and during her free time, she can be seen playing around with Matt & Midnight, making videos, making gadgets for missions and doing online research on the various times they all travel to.

May's appearance shows that she has blonde hair with two pigtails. She also wears a pink shirt with puffy sleeves, stars on the front and a big letter 'M', as well as a green skirt and black shoes with white socks. Due to her being younger than Matt by one year, she is also shorter than him. Like her older brother, she also has similar eyes with pinkish flesh tone eyeballs and black pupils, though with the added bonus of small eyelashes this time.

Although she's a bit of a girly girl sometimes when compared to her brother, she is more tech savvy than him. This can be seen with her passion for making online videos, her taking up the challenge of playing video games with Matt and her making various inventions and gizmos with Professor Quack Von Crazy. Her little contraptions come quite useful for taking out the bad guys they face, especially for setting up traps. She also gets along greatly with her brother and Midnight.

Midnight[]

Unlike the first two of them who are humans, Midnight is a black short haired cat with the ability to talk. She pretty much serves the point of being the mascot, animal sidekick and comic relief along with Quack Von Crazy. She can usually get into some goofy antics during missions, especially when the professor tags along and acts all crazy-go-nuts, leading to Midnight attempting to stop him from doing anything dangerous. During her free time though, she really likes spending time with her two owners and enjoys playing with them, and that also gets her into wacky hijinks as well. You might say her clumsiness comes from her being a black cat and the bad luck that comes with it.

Midnight has a unique appearance, resembling more of a cartoon cat from the golden era of animation in the late-1920s-to early-1930s. Her face is a pinkish flesh tone (just like her masters) and her eyes are nothing more than small black pupils that go all around whenever she's looking around. She also has a black triangle nose, a long tail, sharp teeth, pointy claws, small ears, and a red collar she wears around her neck with the tag on it displaying a small red 'M'.

Midnight is the goofy one of the trio for sure, but that can often lead her to stopping crime sometimes and her being a useful hand in helping Matt and May trap bad guys, due to her antics usually leading them towards a trap. Midnight remains among the most important of the group, and Matt and May would never imagine what their journeys would be like without their trusty cat at their side. It should also be noted that Midnight is the sassiest of the trio, delivering one liners on occasion and even speaking with a Brooklyn-like accent.

Trivia[]

• Midnight was designed first out of the trio as her design was gonna be the prototype design for the scrapped character Katie The Cat.
• The pinkish flesh tone eyes that Matt and May have are based on the eyes that Hanna-Barbera uses for some of their human characters in their shows, most notably the Scooby-Doo franchise. Midnight on the other hand was based on rubberhose characters of the 1920s and 1930s, with the biggest design influences being that of Felix the Cat, Oswald The Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse.
• Each character is based on something around Super Matthieu Brothers himself: Matt was based on SMB as a kid as a whole naturally, May was an original character but her name came from Matt's birth month, and Midnight is based on Matt's cat Midna, even originally sharing a name with Matt's real life cat.
• Personality-wise, all three are based on the main heroes of Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil: Matt is based on Klonoa, May is based on Lolo and Midnight is based on Popka. However, all three characters also have other character inspirations from other media Matt likes.
