Hey Madden fans! This might be our most controversial top 10 list yet. Today we’re ranking the top 10 quarterbacks in Madden Ultimate Team and the list probably isn’t what you were expecting.
Top 10 QBs in MUT 23
1. 87 OVR Aaron Rodgers
Rodgers’s QB release (Slinger 1) is everything, and he's’ the only viable MUT QB with it. Slinger 1 is the fastest pass release animation in the game. It allows you to get the ball out extremely quickly which is so important because of how often you will face heavy blitzes in H2H. Also, Rodgers has the “Sense Pressure: Ideal” trait which we believe helps him throw more accurately under pressure without any ability. Every Madden pro we talked to this week that doesn’t use designed QB runs ranked Rodgers as their QB1.
2. 90 OVR Michael Vick
We don’t blame you if Vick is on top of your list. There’s a lot to love about this player item. He’s the fastest player currently in the game regardless of position. He has the best throw power in the game and his maxed Power Up gets Set Feet Lead at a discount for only 2 AP. He also has the 2nd fastest release animation (Slinger 2) in the game. One downside is that he has the “Sense Pressure: Paranoid” trait which seems to hurt his accuracy when throwing under pressure. If you can afford Vick and you prefer a mobile QB, it’s an obvious choice.
3. 90 OVR Drew Bledsoe
Bledsoe is the less mobile version of Vick. They both have 92 throw power and Bledsoe also gets Set Feet Lead, but not at a discount. While we don’t have any data on it, we’ve heard that his release animation (Traditional 2) isn’t as nice as Rodgers’s or Vick’s. If you want Set Feet Lead for the added ball velocity but don’t want to pay over a million coins for Vick, consider Bledsoe.
4. 87 OVR Marcus Mariota
If you love taking off with the QB and you don’t have millions of coins, Mariota is likely your guy. He’s the only QB in the game besides Power Up Vick that gets the Fast Break ability which improves blocking on designed QB runs. Twitch streamer and friend of MUT.GG, Ragusa6quick, highly recommends Mariota. He does very well in Ragusa’s college style spread offense full of option plays and designed QB runs.
5. 89 OVR Jalen Hurts
Hurts has a great combination of mobility and passing ratings. He has 85 speed with 88 throw power and solid accuracy ratings (88 SAC, 87 MAC, 87 DAC). He also has great throw on the run (87) and throw under pressure (87). He has one of the better QB release animations (Generic 3) as well. He’s not the best at any one thing, but he’s very well-rounded and will do well in a variety of offense styles.
6. 88 OVR Trevor Lawrence
Lawrence was the first Competitive Pass player reward. If you’re using him, you probably love him as a lot of players have had good things to say. If you missed out and didn’t earn him, unfortunately there’s no way to unlock him as of right now. Just like Hurts, he’s a very well-rounded QB. He can basically do it all.
7. 88 OVR Josh Allen
Allen’s Core Elite item is still a great option at QB. He has 89 throw power and decent accuracy ratings (84 SAC, 83 MAC, 84 DAC). He’s fast enough (80 SPD) to take off on a broken play and he has great throw on the run (89). Allen also has the third fastest QB release animation (Slinger 4) in the game.
8. 89 OVR Joe Montana
Montana was part of the first All Madden program release and he’s still getting the job done at QB for a lot of MUT teams. He has many of the QB ratings you would expect from a legendary passer, but his release animation (Traditional 1) leaves a bit to be desired. Montana gets the Legends team chemistry so if you’re trying to run a Legends theme team without spending big for Vick or Bledsoe, Montana is your pick.
9. 87 OVR Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes has a much better release in Madden 23 than last year. He has the Slinger 2 animation which is based on his real-life throwing motion. His Core Elite item has solid ratings across the board and is definitely viable. We expect Mahomes's next player item to be one of the top QBs in the game.
10. 89 OVR Joe Burrow
Burrow is pretty comparable to Montana in terms of ratings, but he has a better QB release animation (Slinger 5). If you’re running any theme team from the AFC North, Burrow gets your team’s chemistry since he is the AFC North Champion from the Team Affinity program.
